Here's Alex

Here's Alex. You can see him much better with the smaller breathing tube. His IV is on top of his head, and the nurse said if he pulls it out again (he's pulled it out twice) they are going to leave it out and see how he does.

Alex and his pacifier. He is getting quite an appetite. They were going to start giving him 30ml (one whole ounce) at feedings last night.

We don't want anybody to miss out on what Alex sounds and looks like.

2 haircuts and a sweetheart...

Started out by cutting Guelly's hair on Tuesday. He cried when I used the scissors, but was ok with the clippers. Here he is modeling after his bath.

Here is Ethan after his haircut - and bath - on Thursday night. He sat very well for it and neither the scissors or clippers bothered him. We had quite a pile of hair when we got done!

Smiling Hannah didn't need a haircut. She was content to just sit and look around.

What more can you ask for when there is a smiling, happy baby around?

We will be going to Toledo to see Alex tonight, so hopefully will have some new pictures of him tomorrow!

Meet Alex Ruben Garcia

Meet Alex Ruben Garcia, weighing in at 4lb 10 oz and 18 inches long. He was born Feb. 24, 2008 at 1:36am in Toledo Hospital. He is in the NICU (Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit). He is breathing on his own, but has the CPAP to force oxygen. Mindy said he is breathing a little faster than they like, so there is a chance they will have to intubate him (she got to see his doctor while she was there). All his other numbers were looking good. He just needs time for his lungs to mature and for him to grow. Been a long 3 days for Alison and Nacho - think they are glad the first part is over. Unfortunately, Alex may be in the hospital for some time to come.
Has lots of tubes and monitors all over, but he looks pretty good. I think he looks a lot like Guelly did when he was a baby. The NICU is more like private rooms now. There is just Alex and one other baby in his room. It is a new addition to the hospital. Room for something like 66 infants and there are 54 there right now. And Alex is one of the bigger ones. Alison will probably be in the hospital until Wednesday, then she hopes to be able to get a room at the Ronald McDonald House right across the street.
Toledo Hospital does not allow a sibling into NICU unless they are 3 years old. So Guelly wasn't allowed to see his new brother. Ethan, not being a sibling, couldn't go back unless he was 13. So they just played in Alison's room and watched cartoons on her tv. Hannah really got the shaft. She wasn't 6 months old yet, so she wasn't even allowed in the maternity rooms. So Kevin walked her around the hallways outside of maternity, then Mindy fed her will Kevin went back to see Alex.

The Waiting Game...

Guelly is here. And that can only mean that Mom is in the hospital. It seems that that Guelly dreaded 4 letter word thing (BABY) has decided to make an early appearance. The due date isn't until April 1, but Alison's water broke last night. She is currently in Toledo Hospital where they are working on getting her ready to deliver - eventually. Last report was that not much was happening yet, but we know it is going to happen soon. Meanwhile, Guelly is enjoying being at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Keep checking back - I will post updates as they become available.

Super Bowl Sunday.....and beyond

Super Bowl Sunday - here is part of the crowd eating and getting ready for the big game. WAY TO GO GIANTS!!!! Party was at Tony Singer's in his basement. Sarah Macsay is holding Hannah just to the left of Mindy.
Ethan and Kevin decided it was better in the toy room than with the rest of the people doing boring things like eating and talking and playing cards.

Here is Guelly trying on Popi's new gloves this week. Just a tad big on him, but he did get both thumbs where they belong!
