Meet Alex Ruben Garcia

Meet Alex Ruben Garcia, weighing in at 4lb 10 oz and 18 inches long. He was born Feb. 24, 2008 at 1:36am in Toledo Hospital. He is in the NICU (Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit). He is breathing on his own, but has the CPAP to force oxygen. Mindy said he is breathing a little faster than they like, so there is a chance they will have to intubate him (she got to see his doctor while she was there). All his other numbers were looking good. He just needs time for his lungs to mature and for him to grow. Been a long 3 days for Alison and Nacho - think they are glad the first part is over. Unfortunately, Alex may be in the hospital for some time to come.
Has lots of tubes and monitors all over, but he looks pretty good. I think he looks a lot like Guelly did when he was a baby. The NICU is more like private rooms now. There is just Alex and one other baby in his room. It is a new addition to the hospital. Room for something like 66 infants and there are 54 there right now. And Alex is one of the bigger ones. Alison will probably be in the hospital until Wednesday, then she hopes to be able to get a room at the Ronald McDonald House right across the street.
Toledo Hospital does not allow a sibling into NICU unless they are 3 years old. So Guelly wasn't allowed to see his new brother. Ethan, not being a sibling, couldn't go back unless he was 13. So they just played in Alison's room and watched cartoons on her tv. Hannah really got the shaft. She wasn't 6 months old yet, so she wasn't even allowed in the maternity rooms. So Kevin walked her around the hallways outside of maternity, then Mindy fed her will Kevin went back to see Alex.
