Let me start this off by saying the nobody got hurt and everybody is just fine. The weekend started Friday night when Mindy ended up needing to stay in Ft. Wayne with an OB patient. That normally is fine, but she just happened to have two little kids with her cause they had been to the zoo - it was supposed to be her day off. So I met her at the Meijer's on US37 in Ft. Wayne and brought the kids home with me. Ethan wanted to ride the combine with Grandpa, so I took him down to the field and he went off with Grandpa Far Far Away. They get to the other side of the field (Hannah is with me in the car) when the combine breaks down. The reel quit working. So I drive down and pick the two combiners up and bring them home. Kevin gets there around 9 pm to pick up the kids and Mark also makes it home from Columbus. This brings us to Saturday. Grandpa Far Far Away fixes his combine and Mindy needs a babysitter again (OB patient hasn't delivered yet) so with Mark home to run wagons, etc, she brings the kids over. Grandpa Far Far Away (or Grandpa Beans, depending on which grandson is talking) decides he can take both boys on the combine at the same time. By the time their ride is finished (maybe an hour and a half later) Grandpa has decided that that was the worst bus ride ever, although I think he did enjoy it. On to some pictures from Saturday:
Here is Uncle Mark with all 3 nephews and 1 neice. This was the closest I could get to everybody looking the same direction at the same time.
Hannah is getting a jump on the holiday season. She found the reindeer antlers and was trying to figure out how to put them on.Now on to Sunday. We went to church in Defiance at the 8:30 mass, saw Dr. Fout and Jane and a few other people we know and hadn't seen for a while. Went out for breakfast at Frisch's then on to Menards where we picked up a woodburner for the shop and also an add-on woodburner for Ali and Nacho's new house. Mark took a wagon to Mark Center to weigh cause we needed to know how many beans would be in the wagon and it wouldn't be dumped at the elevator. Delivered the wood burner to the Garcias and Dan went on to the field at the corner of 127 and 249 to start combining. Mark took me to the field where the other truck and a full wagon was and he left for Columbus. As he was leaving the field, I realized that I didn't have any keys to that truck. But Mark is on a mission to get home, and doesn't look back. Good thing we now have cell phones!!! So I called Dan, who had just gotten to the field he was combining, and he had to come over and bring me the key. So I take that load up to the Ney Elevator and go down where he is combining. He has the wagon ready that only needs to be weighed. So rather than unhook a wagon and all that, I just took the one already hooked up and headed to Mark Center, since when I left the elevator in Ney it was getting busy and I needed to leave these beans at home anyway. So I head west on 249 and turn onto Behnfeldt to head to Mark Center. Cross over McCavit road, so far so good. This is when things really go bad. This is a paved road. Those of you who used to farm or do farm, probably have all kinds of thoughts right now. Let me say this:
The truck did not break down.
I did not hit anything with the truck or wagon.
I did not run off the road.
The tongue on the wagon did not come loose ( that happened once when he was taking the JC Grill over to Mark Center and the grill ended up in the bottom of a deep ditch)
I did not have a flat tire on the wagon or truck.
So what happened?
Apparently one of the township bridges was a lot rougher than I thought it was going to be. I am going down the road and kaboom!! Look below for the results:
Believe it or not, that truck is still hooked to the wagon. That is the front of the wagon on the ground!!

Thank goodness for wonderful neighbors and friends!!! I called Dan and next thing you know Joe Schubert came up behind me right after it happened and made sure I was ok. Tom Case brought his big skid loader down and helped, Ben Keil and Rick Schindler both came and helped too. And of course, family is right there. Alison and Nacho came right away and did all they could. Guelly looked at it and said "Grandma made a mess". Sure did. But all is taken care of now and the wagon I would say is totaled, but nobody got hurt and that is what is important!!
